Volakas stone became famous almost since its first quarry days. For many decades it has been exported worldwide and still continues to play a leading role on the international stone market. Its quarries are found in Drama, near the homonymous small village which is also known as Volax, located on the mountain Falakro, on the North-East part of the Province Macedonia, in Greece.
Drama area along with the neighbouring areas of Kavala and Thassos they form all together a more extensive region which is the main white marble producing region of Greece. Marble industries are highly developed in there where they quarry, manufacture and export almost 50% of the white marble, as besides Volakas, in there are also found several others productive quarries of the most popular Greek white stones.
In Greece, stone quality is an essential factor carefully attended for all stages of the production. Selection is starting from the blocks which are strictly selected from the best Volakas quarrier producing the best grades. Then, raw blocks are brought into a modern and fully equipped marble industry, where a most efficient producer cuts the stone into slabs and tiles. Processing continues with particular attention on finish and treatment according to customer requirements. Special attention is also paid on the strict packing of the stone products in order to ensure safe deliveries to all destinations directly from the most up-to-date industry in Greece.
